The strength of the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation logo is based on hierarchy, layout and typography to achieve the desired tone of warmth and approachability as well as the impression of confidence and strength.

Use optimal size and defined clear space, as well as delineated placement in relation to other content all help to make it as instantly recognizable at all sizes and in all contexts.

Proper logo size is important to maintaining readability, as well as ensuring a consistent look throughout the brand.

Make sure the logo is applied at a reasonable size. This means the logo should never be overpowering (too large) or understated (too small) for the application. Avoid reproducing the logo below 0.75″ wide in print and 54 pixels wide in web use.

CLEAR SPACE

Leave a little room. Let it breathe.

To ensure legibility, always keep a minimum clear space around the logo. This space isolates the mark from any competing graphic elements like body copy or other logos that might conflict with, overcrowd, and lessen the impact of the logo.

The minimum clear space is defined as the height of the word FOUNDATION in the logo design. This minimum space should be maintained as the logo is proportionately resized.

COLOUR USAGE

The colour usage for the QEII Foundation logo is fairly minimal. The logo can be used in full colour or a white burn on a purple background or an image. The logo can also be used in a white box with acceptable clear space.

USAGE ON BACKGROUNDS

Maximum legibility and recognition.

The full-color logos should be used only on white, cool charcoal or purple backgrounds. Avoid using full-color logos on photographs unless the logo sits on a black or white area of the image. Each option should be exercised with care, making sure the logo isn’t obstructed by the image.

TIPS:

Use photos with shallow depths-of-field.
Apply a darker/lighter transparent overlay on an image to make logo and text more readable.
Use a white box around a full colour logo if image does not allow for maximum legibility.
